Mercy Alum Marian Randazzo’s Bequest Will Keep Her Mother’s Spirit and Memory Alive

Marian RandazzoExtending a helping hand for tomorrow’s Mercy College students is a fitting way to honor Marian Randazzo’s late mother, which is why Marian established a bequest in her will creating opportunities for future Mavericks.

The bequest will honor Serafina Randazzo, Marian’s mother, and will assist students based on their needs and commitment to getting a good education.

It’s a fitting tribute to Serafina, who, as a young lady growing up in the Bronx, had to quit high school after losing both of her parents. She would later earn her GED and move to Tarrytown, where she was active professionally and in many community organizations.

“We called her ‘Ma,’ and she was a spitfire,” Marian says. The bequest “exemplifies her spirit and keeps her memory alive.”

Since earning her bachelor’s degree in 1976 from Mercy College, Marian has enjoyed successful careers at Gannett Newspaper and at Proftech Workplace Solutions. She has also remained active with her alma mater through a professional connection and by mentoring students.

While at Mercy, Marian appreciated its affordability and excellent professors. And, although she worked part-time, she never felt left out.

“There were other students in the same situation, so I didn’t feel like commuting and working was a terrible thing,” she says.

Now, through her bequest, Marian is paving the way for future Mercy students. She urges other alumni to consider doing the same.

“They should consider the impact that Mercy College has on future generations and how, as a donor, you can facilitate that mission going forward,” she says.
